Russian History

About the tutor: Dave DeBorde is a University Film and Communications professor who visited and worked on a project in Russia, and more specifically, in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

About the course: This course explores over one thousand years of Russian history, from the rise of Kievan Rus to modern geopolitics. Students will examine political development, cultural formation, revolution, war, and the enduring influence of Christianity in Russian society. Special attention will be given to the role of Eastern Orthodoxy, the persecution of believers under communism, and the complex relationship between church and state across the centuries.
